CDMC Nylon Abrasive Brush Machining Solutions

Precision machining can be accomplished with a nylon abrasive brush based solution. It is a process that is consistent, reliable, and repeatable via the use of a deburring machine designed and developed by the Cleveland Deburring Machine Company. In this blog article, we’ll give an overview of the versatility of nylon brushes in the precision brush machining process, as well as some of the deburring machines that have been developed by CDMC to this end.

CDMC has been in the business of defining and addressing problems and challenges in the edge finishing and precision machining industry for years. The use of nylon abrasive brushes have been a great benefit to our clients from all markets and industries – especially given that the nylon brush media used in many of our brush machining systems can be custom developed to the specifications outlined by the client.

Abrasive nylon brushes make for an incredibly reliable machining media, due to the fact that they can be manufactured for nearly any specific need. Nylon abrasive brushes are made from a nylon carrier that is extruded with an abrasive grain. Some common types of abrasive grain include ceramic media, cubic boron nitride (CBN), diamond, and silicon carbide. When the abrasive material is mixed with the nylon carrier and extruded into abrasive brush filaments, the resulting brush is a composite of nylon and grain – a brush that doesn’t lose its abrasive properties even as the filaments themselves wear down during use.

Nylon brush media can be designed with many configurations in mind. The brushes themselves can be radial, disc, bottle type, or many other shape configurations. In addition, the physical aspects of each brush (diameter, density, configuration, trim length) can be designed or adjusted to perform in almost any brush machining capacity. Nylon bristle filaments can be rounded, crimped, or rectangular, and the filaments can be almost any composition of nylon and abrasive grain. The brush and filament configurations are almost endless, but the result is one that provides a specific brush machining function tailored to the need of the client.

When it comes to the deburring machines that make abrasive brush machining hassle free, we have a number of machines that have been meticulously designed to handle the job expertly. The OLS Model 2003-GB and the OLS Model Mag 1/C are both examples of deburring machines that are cost-effective, time-reducing, and capable of complementing a number of different types of workpieces. Each has its own unique specifications, and we always recommend that potential clients contact us to discuss specific deburring or machining needs, but each machine is quite capable of handling many different workpiece types. Although designed to be an operator-loaded machine, the OLS Model 2003-GB can be adapted to accommodate robotic loading and unloading. And the OLS Model Mag1/C was specifically designed for portability, as well as ease of integration into existing manufacturing bays.
