Deburring Solutions for Greenware Parts
Deburring is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Deburring technology for powdered metal parts, including greenware, demands a considered approach. Greenware and powdered parts are fragile prior to the sintering process and sometimes cannot be magnetized. As a result, these parts require special considerations and smart handling methods to effectively preserve the integrity of the metal products.
Note: For the purposes of this article, when speaking of greenware parts we will be referring to powdered metal parts that haven’t been through the final sintering process.
Deburring Solutions
Sturdy greenware
Method: Greenware parts having more strength are often best addressed through a process using through-feed, inline deburring. The CDMC Mag series machines use a magnetic conveyor for powdered metal parts requiring deburring on both sides of the object. The Mag series machines feature Auto Amp Compensation, meaning the machine can automatically adjust the brushes and compensate for wear.
Process: The design of the magnetic conveyor avoids the need to hand flip the parts, which can often result in broken pieces and a rise in costs. A built-in cooling system reduces the cost of brush media. This is turn can also lower the per-piece costs during the deburring process.
Fragile greenware
Method: Greenware pieces thought too fragile to run through large machines and that cannot be magnetized demand special handling solutions. The CDMC 4000 series offers the extra care needed for these fragile greenware pieces.
Process: The 4000 series is an adaptable through-feed deburring solution with the ability to manage parts that need deburring on both faces. Its brushes are arranged in an over-and-under fashion, allowing for two-side deburring without the use of a magnetized conveyor belt. The deburring machine keeps constant brush pressure, helping to maximize brush life and ensure consistent, quality output.
