Deburring Solutions for Powdered Metal Parts
To be a leader in deburring technology for powdered metal parts, it’s important to keep in mind that some forms of these parts (particularly greenware) are more fragile than others. Special processes and handling are often required to ensure the effectiveness of the deburring process. This kind of special handling will also preserve the integrity of the powdered metal product.
Note: When we speak of greenware parts, we are talking specifically about powdered metal parts that haven’t been through the final sintering process. During the deburring process, these parts should be handled delicately, due to the fact that they are typically very fragile before the sintering process and often can’t be magnetized.
Deburring Solutions for Powdered Metal Parts and Greenware:
1. Sturdier greenware, that which is well-suited to traditional deburring processes and handling, is best addressed by a process that makes use of through-feed, in-line deburring machines. These high-production deburring machines, such as the CDMC Mag series machines, are ideally suited to handle deburring needs on powdered metal parts that require deburring on both sides – via a magnetic conveyor. The magnetic conveyor is an essential piece of the deburring process, due to the fact that it can handle the parts without hand flipping that often results in broken pieces and a rise in associated costs. The Mag series machines feature Auto Amp Compensation which allows the machine to automatically adjust the brushes and compensate for wear. In addition, the Mag series machines are a benefit in that they are built with an integrated cooling system that reduces the cost of brush media as well as per-piece costs during deburring.
2. For powdered greenware pieces that are too fragile to be run through larger machines – or cannot be magnetized during the deburring process – the CDMC 4000 series machines are the optimum solution. Given the special handling needed for many types of greenware pieces, there are a limited number of deburring solutions available. Fortunately, the 4000 Series comes from a unique family of through-feed deburring solutions that are well-adapted to many different types of parts that require special handling. The 4000 series, like the Mag series, handles parts that need deburring on both faces. But what makes them different from the Mag series is the fact that the brushes are arranged in an over and under fashion – allowing two-side deburring without the assistance of a magnetized conveyor belt. Constant brush pressure is maintained throughout the deburring process – maximizing the life of the brushes and ensuring consistent quality output.
Some machines feature integrated dust collection, others are geared toward higher output, others feature special software that makes changeover from one type of part to another quick and easy. Due to the fact that there are a number of solutions available for deburring powdered metal products, it is always best to consult with a deburring solutions specialist.
